Chartered Consultant and Forensic Psychologist Anton Ashcroft, talks to me about behaviour change, and specifically, what motivates us to make exercise and health related changes. During the interview Anton gets specific on the reasons why so many people struggle to make long term changes by delving into the psychology of several of the more common barriers to changing. Anton also talks about various common sense strategies and methods that we can all use in order to build and maintain motivation to exercise and live a healthier life.

About Anton Anton (BSc, MSc, MBPS, MDFP, CPsychol) trained as a Forensic Psychologist within the UK prison service, before working for Leicester Drug and Alcohol services, where he provided psychological support for the homeless and supervision for hostel staff. From here Anton became an independent consultant where he developed Drug Rehab programmes for the prison service, provided assessment reports for solicitors, worked for Trauma Psychological Services, and worked privately with a range of clients.
In the last five years Anton has lived in NZ, initially working as a Senior Psychologist with the Department of Corrections, then again becoming an independent consultant, developing Adult Sex Offender treatment programmes, and more recently, the prison based drug interventions for prisoners (currently being rolled out to every prison in the country). Anton has also provided supervision for drug treatment units and special treatment unit staff, trainee psychologists and offender rehabilitation programme facilitators. Anton continues to do individual prisoner treatment in prisons and forensic mental health units, as well as private client work.
